About Oshkosh Homeschool Players History In 2007 a group of homeschool parents from the Oshkosh area came together seeking opportunities for their children to participate locally in theatrical productions. One homeschool group in Fond du Lac had experienced success in producing their own plays so the decision was made to move ahead and the Oshkosh Homeschool Players were formed. After a script which allowed the involvement of many children was chosen, information about the new group was shared through homeschooling networks. Auditions were held, children and adults got involved, many rehearsals were held, behind the scenes work was done and the result, with over fifty children and adults involved, the first production of "Alice in Wonderland". At the end of the season, the decision was made to continue on so in fall of 2008 a group of parents met again to look at preparing a show for 2009. A script committee composed of both parents and children began looking for the best choice for production in 2009. After the work of the script committee, the decision was made at a meeting to produce "Blather, Blarney and Balderdash". The production was held in March, 2009 and was a wonderful success with almost 300 people attending! In 2010, the group staged Scheherazade, an adaptation of the Arabian Nights legend. New actors learned the ropes, while veterans honed their skills. It was another top notch performance, and left both audiences and actors wanting more! In 2011, Oshkosh Homeschool Players performed North Woods Nonsense, a comedy that centered around the various characters who, for one reason or another, converge at the Lost Loon Lodge on Moose Bottom Lake in Wisconsin. Participants Oshkosh Homeschool Players participants come from many places. Children ages 7-18 can be a part of the production. Part of the purpose of Oshkosh Homeschool Players is to give every homeschooler the chance to be a part of the production whether it be acting or technical needs such as sets, costumes, sound or make-up. Parents are also involved by assisting wherever needed, but the children get to take center stage! Oversight A Board of Directors oversees the activities of the Oshkosh Homeschool Players. |
